Path with linebreaks
If you don't want verbatim processing, write in preamble:
\def\path#1{\texttt{\spaceskip=1sp\relax#1}}
(Or whatever font instead of texttt) Then put spaces where you want to allow line breaks.
\path{/usr/share/ doc/ \textit{pack age}/ copy right}
which gives: 
or with linebreak if needed.
